Simple is as Simple Does....

I love the simple life! However, I wasn’t always like this.  I sought after the world for most of my happiness by desiring the latest fashions and finest things in my home.  I simply wanted more and more  but the more I got, the more I was left  still feeling empty inside.   My happiness had turned to things and when that didn’t fulfill me, I turned to people and so the cycle continued. Trust me, people couldn’t define my need to be fulfilled either.  It truly was a sad place to be and I made my life more complicated for myself without even realizing it.  I had debt and I had broken relationships.  Life was definitely not simple or fulfilling back then.
Today, in my quiet time I read in 2 Corinthians 3:18,” We all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being  transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”  I smiled as I read this because it reminded me of how much God has literally transformed me from a life of emptiness and stress to a life where I simply enjoy it!
The word behold in this verse in the Greek is katoptrizomai  which means, “to see, behold, contemplate or reflect.”  And the word transformed in the Greek is metamorphoomai, which looks much like the word metamorphosis.   In Romans 12:2 we’re told we should not to conform to this world but rather be transformed by the renewing of our mind.  I was literally changed from one degree of glory to another by the Holy Spirit and I will never be the same again!
My life these days is simple.  I have come to love basic living in all forms.  I enjoy savoring small conversations with my friends while wearing a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I no longer feel the need to be wearing the best.  My home doesn’t have to be perfect or have the latest Pier One items displayed.  Instead, I long for basic treasures that come in the form of enjoying each moment I have without all the fluff.  The treasures I desire now is my God, my family, and even myself.
As you go through your day, I pray  that you too will enjoy the simple life that is offered to you in the everyday -with beautiful sunsets, smiling faces , hot cups of coffee(had to throw this one in there), warm socks, lush green grass and great conversations with loved ones.
The best things in life are nearest:  Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you.  Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.”  ~Robert Louis Stevenson
